Questions & Answers
Puppy mills are dog breeding facilities that produce puppies. They exist for one reason only, to make money. There may be up to 1000 dogs of different breeds in a mill. Dogs live in cruel and inhumane conditions. They live their intire live in a tiny little wired cage, even the floor being wire, until their body is worn out and they can no longer procude puppies. At that point they get killed, usually shot or drowned. Puppy mill dogs are given no human affection and they have never felt the grass under their feet.
How many puppy mills are in the United States?
There are more than 10.000 puppy mills in the United States, producing approximately 1 million puppies each year. Missouri has the most puppy mills in the country with a 2 billion dollar industry.
Visit your local shelter or rescue organization and take pride in adopting a dog that needs a home. If you prefer not to adopt from a shelter, you can look for a reputable breeder. Please do not support puppy mills by buying a dog from a pet store. 99% of the puppies sold there come from puppy mills.
You can also help by volunteering at a local rescue organization or by making a donation. Please check out the link on my website about National Mill Dog Rescue or go to milldogrescue.org.
